The UK government has revealed more details about its home decarbonisation and energy efficiency strategy, releasing its ‘Powering Up Britain’ document. It outlines the various tactics and initiatives for reducing greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050.
The wide-ranging plans include a focus on improving the energy efficiency of homes. The Great British Insulation Scheme seeks to boost help for those on low incomes and improve more of the least energy-efficient homes in the country.
The clear ambition to phase out natural gas boilers is seen with the extension of the Boiler Upgrade Scheme and Heat Pump Investment Accelerator. It is important to note that any energy efficiency upgrades should begin with a fabric-first approach and education on how to properly use measures like heat pumps. It is this early stage understanding that will see energy efficiency and savings achieved to their highest potential together.
