Introduction
In a separate case study, we detail our work for Rykneld Homes under Phase 1A of the Local Area Delivery (LAD) scheme. This study focuses on another phase of works, this time funded by LAD 1B.
In this case, the works entailed installing external wall insulation to 101 BISF Non-Traditional Properties and a further 39 Unity Non-Traditional homes. As on previous schemes, the client wanted to deliver lasting energy efficiency improvements for its residents.
The project
Once again, we worked closely with PermaRock Products Ltd to design bespoke solutions for each property archetype. This has consistently proven to be a fast and efficient way to proceed, and one that also yields important quality controls. As a result, delays due to quality issues and rectification work were eliminated.
Work therefore proceeded steadily. As in the first phase, inspections by SBS site managers and PermaRock staff helped to ensure trouble-free handovers, and effective resident liaison helped minimise no-access issues.
All retrofit energy efficiency works were completed to the relevant PAS2030 standard, with works taking place after property-by-property assessments and delivery plans.
Results
The solid wall insulation was installed on schedule and all residents received a 25-year guarantee backed by the Solid Wall Insulation Agency, SWIGA.
The works were subsequently visited by local MP, Lee Rowley (representing North East Derbyshire) who applauded Rykneld Homes’ efforts to improve living conditions for residents.

Client Feedback
“It was good to visit Unstone to find out more about the upgrade and improvement works that Rykneld Homes are undertaking in the village. Along with Cllr Alex Dale, Councillor for Unstone and also Leader of North East Derbyshire District Council, we had a great visit finding out more about the works being done to make the homes more energy efficient, to renew and replace parts of the buildings, and to improve insulation – all part of a wider programme across North East Derbyshire to improve hard-to-heat homes.”
